Three things I am making, loving + thinking about this week

01 | making

I am creating a set of patterns for my next zine, Boxed Brownie Hacks. Each pattern will pair with its corresponding recipe and ingredients. Since I am using a light brown paper stock for the interior pages, I don’t have the option to use the color white in the patterns. This has been a challenge, but a welcome one that I enjoy working through. Here is a sneak peek at the first two flavors.

My friend Liz left her tenured law professor position to become a standup comic. Yes—she is badass! And really funny. A huge thing just happened to her, and I want to share it with you so you can watch and share it too: her set was released on Don’t Tell Comedy. This is a BFD; getting a set on Don’t Tell is like getting on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show in the 1980s. Watch it, like it, and share it, please!

shared a quote and an essay that I’ve been thinking about all week:

If there are no waves, row.

This. This is exactly where I am right now. Right now, it’s like this. 

The realization that there are no waves to give me a push. The internalization that there is no one coming to save me. The resignation that there is no safety net. That this is going to require effort.

So row. Not towards the shore behind you. Not back to where you just were. Head in the direction you want to go. Point yourself towards where you want to be.
